Service to Mankind Award Recepients
Neil Vassau received the 2017 Service to Mankind Award for his volunteer service
from Mark Schmidt, president of Middleton Sertoma at a recent meeting at the Imperial Garden. The Service to Mankind Award is the highest honor Sertoma, Inc. (formerly Sertoma International) can bestow on a non-Sertoman. The award honors outstanding volunteer service to the community. With his volunteering at his church, St. Thomas, his work with the MAFPG (Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens) greenhouse, his work at both the Witte and MOM (Middleton Outreach Ministry) gardens, plus volunteering 2 mornings a week at the MOM food pantry warehouse inventory support. Neil has shown a high level of volunteer serving in our Good Neighbor city. Congratulations Neil.
In the second photo Joe Herr received the Il/WI District Service to Mankind (STM) award for 2017 from Curt Norton, vice-president of Middleton Sertoma at a recent meeting at the Imperial Garden. Joe was our 2016 The Service to Mankind Award recipient. In district competition Joe's volunteerism out-shined the other worthy candidates. The award honors outstanding volunteer service to our community, specifically he founded Logan’s Heart and Smiles and his work with that organization.

2017 Scholarship award Recepients
In the photo Daniel Hershberger received a scholarship award from Mark
Schmidt, president of Middleton Sertoma in a May 24th meeting at the
Imperial Garden. Daniel is planning to attend the University of
Wisconsin Madison in the fall and major in engineering. Daniel has done many hours of volunteer work in the community and more globally.
The second Middleton Sertoma scholarship was awarded to Jaunavi Gali. She could not be in attendance; however, her parents accepted the scholarship for her. She is planning to attend the University of Pennsylvania. She too has done a lot of volunteering, including at the MOM food pantry garden.

2016 Service to Mankind award
Middleton Sertoma presents the Service to mankind award for 2016 to Joe Herr. Joe he founded Logan’s
Heart and Smiles. Logan’s
Heart & Smiles provides free labor and materials (based on income) to help
ease the burden families with disabled children face. Joe (on right) was introduced by Curt Norton (on left). As of today, the organization he founded, has helped 97
families by building 63 ramps, 10 fences and many other projects.
Using his skills as a carpenter along with a few family and friends, Joe has helped many families by building ramps, fences and making home modifications. Joe also serves as President on the Board of the Family Support and Resource Center of Dane County.
